Life cycle cost and benefits analysis for retrofit options
Retrofits and target hardening measures should be optimized considering the business objectives. Obviously, personnel must be fully protected and any disruptions to the business be minimized. At the same time, immediate implementation and life cycle costs for a chosen retrofit scenario must be carefully assessed. Different retrofit scenarios may lead to similar desired results, but with different implementation and life cycle costs. For alternative building security improvements, a cost/benefit analysis is used to determine if and when an improvement is affordable and/or cost-effective in order to set alternatives for various improvement projects.
Cost/benefit analyses are conducted using a model-driven methodology of total life-cycle costs and savings. This computerized analysis framework is fully integrated with retrofits analysis and provides for a synergistic assessment leading to an optimal design of enhanced-security measures. In this process, security officers and facility operators are in-the-loop using graphical user interfaces to input their data.
